The progression towards the Fall Art Festival Season

Starting on Poe Springs
Progress on Poe Springs
This year will be my biggest season ever, this fall with 3 paint outs, 2 maybe 3 art festivals and in the spring, possibly 3 art festivals. I will be posting my fall schedule soon. With all this, I am painting as much as I can with our plein air Fridays with Gainesville Fine Arts Plein Air group, miniature pics and bigger studio pieces.  These following pics are two of the larger pieces that I will use for showcase paintings at the festivals starting with Thornebrook Art Festival on Oct. 4-5 in Gainesville's Thornbrook Village on 43 St.
The first one is not completed but I work at the High Springs Art Coop and will hopefully finish it, this Thursday. This summer, I went scouting good painting spots in Poe Springs, a beautiful state park just outside the city of High Springs.  I took the photo quickly because the mosquitos were thick that day. I found this gorgeous scene at the end of the walking path to the area where you can swim and picnic. I will post the finished painting soon but you can see it's progression here.
The next pic, I call "Approaching Rum Island" is completed and will actually be shown at The Autumn Fest Exhibition at the Suwannee River Regional Library, 1848 South Ohio Ave (Hwy 129), Live Oak, FL., Sept.  8-19. This show is put on by the Live Oak Artist Guild. I will have to  pic it up before the Thornebrook Art Festival to have it for sale at the  festival.
This painting was fun to do since I took the reference photo while  we were coming around the bend of the Santa Fe River and into the  boat dock on Rum Island. My husband, daughter, son in law, my  fabulous granddaughters and I went kayaking down the river this  summer, renting kayaks from my friends at  Rum 138 Canoe &  Kayak rentals. You will always get a good deal and quality  experience from Doug and Merrilee, tell them I sent you!
Rum Island is a beautiful park, off the Santa Fe River, a favorite  around here for swimmers, picnickers, painters and river enthusiasts.  It has a sketchy past from years ago when rough characters, maybe  river pirates, graced it's shores.

And the night painting continues.......with a finished product.

As I stated in a previous post,  Painting in the Dark - A new experience! my friends and I decided some time back to participate in the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens Saturday night, called The Moonlight Walk and attempted to paint in the moonlight. What I discovered is you can start the painting in Plein Air but is is physically impossible to finish it once it gets dark! So here is the progress at dusk, at night and then the progress in the studio to a finish product.
